Education
Dorotea Vejnovic, Ph.D., is a composer who completed her doctoral studies in Music Composition at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade. Her focus spans acoustic, electro-acoustic, and incidental music, encompassing symphony orchestra, vocal and chamber ensembles, electro-acoustic compositions, and solo instruments.
Having participated in masterclasses with esteemed figures like Markus Stockhausen (Germany), Johannes Schollhorn (Germany), and Hollywood composer Christopher Young (LA, USA), Vejnovic has cultivated a diverse skill set, including proficiency in film and media music.
Residency
In 2015, Mrs. Vejnovic contributed her expertise as a resident at San Juan University in Argentina, where she taught composition and music analysis . Additionally, she was invited as a guest lecturer at the University of Bari (Italy).
A notable highlight in her career was the performance of her composition “Euphony” by symphony orchestras, first with the Arad Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (Romania), conducted by Dorin Frandes, and later at the opening of the 2017-2018 concert season with the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Tigran Hakhnazaryan (Armenia) in Novi Sad. Her works have garnered commissions and recognition both nationally and internationally, reaching audiences in Japan, the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, Argentina, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy and Mexico.
Awards and collaborations
Vejnovic's compositions have been featured at festivals such as KoMA (Belgrade), Bartok Festival (Hungary), Festival Neue Musik Luneburg (Hamburg/Germany), Piano City (Novi Sad/Serbia), Ruidalsud Festival (Argentina), Festival of Contemporary Music Arad (Romania), Bunt Festival (Belgrade/Serbia) as well as concerts in Drammen (Netherlands), Musical Conversations Project in Wroclaw (Poland), International Composition and Percussion courses in Trstenice (Czech Republic) and Aires Festival of Contemporary Music (Mexico City), Resonante (Baja California) and festival Ella es musica (Mexico City).
She is a multiple award-winning composer of the Awards of the University of Novi Sad. Notably, she was nominated as a Laureate of the Eurobank EFG Fellowship in 2010, and Dorotea earned the title of Laureate at the prestigious Composition Competition for voice and piano, “Obzorja na Tisi” in 2019.
Collaborating with respected national ensembles, including TAJJ String Quartet, Novosadski duvacki kvintet, Studio 6 ensemble, Res Miranda, Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, and international orchestras such as Arad Symphony Orchestra (Romania) and San Juan Symphony Orchestra (Argentina), Vejnovic has also recorded with the Varna Radio Symphony Orchestra (Bulgaria). Her most recent collaboration with UK pianist, Julius Drake, resulted in recording of the entire score of Beepiphany - a multimedia project consisted of songs for voice and piano.
Contributions to the Arts: Jury Participation
Mrs. Vejnovic serves as a jury member for the prestigious composition competition featured in the distinguished ULJUS event for three consecutive years, spanning from 2021 to 2025. This event stands as one of the only platforms where Serbian young composers and seasoned veterans alike can compete across diverse categories. Moreover, it garnered international attention, drawing applicants from regions as far-reaching as the United States, Asia, and the Middle East.
Music Research and Teaching
An active music researcher, Vejnovic contributes scholarly papers on the intersections of psychology and music, as well as music analysis. She worked as an Assistant in the Composition Department at the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad. Dorotea is a member of the Association of Composers of Vojvodina and an ambassador of The Laza Kostic Fund. She was an active team member of DEMUSIS - a Capacity Building Project in the field of Higher Education (CBHE) project funded by Erasmus+ programme and coordinated by the University of Arts in Belgrade, in Serbia. It is a three-year (2019-2023) joint project focused on curriculum development activities aiming at enhancing the digital competencies and entrepreneurship skills of academic musicians in Serbia for culturally more engaged society. Vejnovic's professional journey is marked by a commitment to excellence, artistic innovation, and a profound impact on the global music landscape.
